THE NOBLE QURAN (SINGLE VOLUME)
Transcriber: Sheikh Abdullah bin Bashier al-Hadrami as-Sohari
Ink, gold leaf and opaque watercolour on paper
12th century AH/18th century CE (al-Yarubi or al-Busaid Dynasty)
This is a rare manuscript of the Noble Qur`an in which the transcriber has
recorded all the seven known methods of recitation (qiraat) in a single volume.
The manuscript is written in an unprecedented style so that each folio begins
and ends with the same letter of a verse. The transcriber has also added the
rules of intonation (tajweed), which are rarely seen so comprehensively
represented. Sheikh Abdullah as-Sohari used the naskh style of script, known
for its elegance and flow. He is considered the most significant Omani master
calligrapher of all time.
