” Swiss Non-Conformist” Exhibition
Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, the National Museum inaugurates the” Swiss Non-Conformist” Exhibition in cooperation with the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation in Oman, as part of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Swiss Confederation.
His Highness also inaugurated the "Hope 2023: Housing, People and the Environment" exhibition organised by the German University of Technology (GUtech). The opening ceremony of the two exhibitions was attended by a number of their Highnesses, Excellencies, and a number of academics.
His Highness toured the “Hope 2023: Housing, People and the Environment” exhibition, which highlights the idea of applying the methodology for creating healthy, modern and sustainable cities, by designing and improving the quality of outdoor spaces in residential neighborhoods, making them walkable and reviving active, healthy and vital environments. The exhibition will be open for visitors during 2-16 February 2023 CE.
His Highness also toured the Swiss exhibition, which celebrates the uniqueness of modern and contemporary Swiss design, right from the beginning of the 20th century, notably upon the emergence of the "Dada" movement in Zurich, through to postmodern expressions. This exhibition, which will last until 22 July 2023, is the first appearance of this genre of Swiss design in the Middle East. It is one of the first exhibitions of its kind in the world outside Switzerland.
The exhibition is distinguished for its special focus on non-conformist design. Nearly 40 percent of the pieces exhibited in Muscat have not been displayed before. The exhibits are carefully selected from among high-level museum designs of pioneers of architecture in the 20th and 21st centuries.
His Highness listened to a detailed explanation of the pieces presented in particular on the topic of chairs and the culture of sitting, as sitting and communication between people acquires a special and new meaning, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pedja Had?i-manovi?, a Swiss designer and architect presented a commemorative gift to HH Sayyid Bilarab at the conclusion of his visit to the two exhibitions. Sayyid Bilarab signed the VIP visitor’s book and expressed his admiration for the two exhibitions.
