The National Museum Hosts Ukrainian Cultural Nights in Celebration of Cultural Diversity and Civilisational Dialogue
The National Museum organised, the event Ukrainian Cultural Nights, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Ukraine to the Sultanate of Oman. The event was held within the framework of strengthening cultural exchange and civilisational dialogue between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Ukraine, under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Meyyan bint Shihab al-Said, Chairwoman of the Board of the Omani Design Society (Design Oman). The event aimed to highlight features of contemporary Ukrainian culture and to showcase shared artistic and human intersections between Omani and Ukrainian cultures through a diverse cultural and artistic programme reflecting the richness of heritage and modern creativity.
The programme opened with a documentary screening titled “Modern Ukraine: Art and Global Heritage”, presenting aspects of the Ukrainian artistic and cultural scene and its contribution to enriching global human heritage, in addition to highlighting Ukraine’s presence on international cultural platforms.
The programme also featured a variety of performances, including vocal segments presented by the soprano Natalia Shylevnytska, one of Ukraine’s most renowned performers and a recipient of the title People’s Artist. She performed a diverse repertoire blending patriotic, heritage, and emotional themes, forming a musical journey across cultures, including the song “Ukraine Is Ours” alongside a selection of international pieces.
The programme further included a traditional Ukrainian fashion show inspired by established Ukrainian artistic schools inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The designs showcased the aesthetics of hand embroidery on silk, linen, and natural leather through haute couture that draws on historical memory, ornamentation, architectural rhythms, and the living heritage of different eras. The collection was created by the distinguished Ukrainian designer Yulia Katsianova of the FOLIY Fashion House, representing a visual dialogue between past and present and revealing the plurality of Ukrainian culture and its globally recognised intangible heritage.
The event concluded with the opening of the art exhibition “Silence Between Lands: Oman and Ukraine” by Ukrainian visual artist Volodymyr Koziuk, one of the leading figures of the contemporary Ukrainian art scene. The exhibition presents a shared artistic vision reflecting human values and cultural ties between the two countries.
