The National Museum inaugurated the “Day of Oman” Exhibition and events at the National Museum in Damascus
The National Museum inaugurated on Monday 1st November 2021 the “Day of Oman” Exhibition and events at the National Museum in Damascus. The exhibition came as a part of a memorandum of understanding that was signed in 2019 in Muscat between the National Museum of Oman and the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of Syrian Arab Republic. It’s worth mentioning that The National Museum of Syria manages (5) Museums.
The exhibition was inaugurated under the patronage of H.E Dr. Lubanah Mushawah, Minister of Culture of Syrian Arabic Republic, in participation with H.E Dr. Buthaina Shaban, Special Advisers at the Presidency of the Republic, H.E Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign and Refugees, H.E Dr. Butrus al-Hallaq, Minister of Information, H.E Muhammad Rami Martini, Minister of Tourism and H.E Husain Maklouf, Minister of Local Administration, in addition to a number of the Syrian Parliament members , Ambassadors, UN representatives and highly officials.
Within the framework of the official meeting between H.E Dr. Lubana Mushawah and H.E. Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moosawi, the Omani side handed over (100) Syrian antiquities that were damaged during the years of the crisis, to the Syrian side, after completing the process of preserving and conserving them in Muscat. Alongside the meeting, the two sides also signed an annex of an agreement to preserve and conserve the second batch of damaged Syrian objects during the years of the crisis.
The initiative is organized annually in one of the world`s excellent museums. Damascus is the third stop of the aforementioned initiative, as the first initiative was launched at the ancient Hermitage Museum in the Russian Federation in 2018. Because of such cooperation, a hall specially dedicated to Oman was inaugurated in the Tsarist Winter Palace in 2020. The second stop of this initiative was at the National Museum of Fine Arts in the Republic of Belarus in 2019, where the Sultanate was a guest of honour on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the mentioned museum. Negotiations are currently underway to host this initiative at the National Museum of Fine Arts in the city of Lyon, French Republic, and National Historical Museum, Republic of Uzbekistan.
