The National Museum Inaugurates the “Oman–Japan Relations Corner” in the Oman and the World Gallery and the documentary film “Mudira”
Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Salim bin Nasser al-Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, the National Museum inaugurated on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, the "Oman–Japan Relations Corner" in the "Oman and the World" Gallery, alongside the launch of the documentary Mudira, part of the A Story from Oman series, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tokyo, Japan.
The film sheds light on the biography of Dr Suad bint Mohammed al-Mudhafar, founder of Azzan bin Qais School, highlighting her academic and cultural journey between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman, and her pioneering experience in the educational and cultural fields.
The A Story from Oman series is an ongoing cultural initiative now in its second year, aimed at documenting the lives of foreign individuals who lived in the Sultanate, interacted with its society, and contributed across various fields. It is produced by Aisha Sahar bint Wahid al-Kharousi, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tokyo.
The Oman–Japan Relations Corner features artefacts that reflect the depth of historical relations between the two countries. Among them are items belonging to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said including samurai armour of the noble Ishiko family, dated back over 300 years.
The corner also includes a Japanese chair gifted to Sultan Turki bin Said al-Busaidi by Commander Itō of the Japanese warship Hiei, which docked in Muscat in 1880 CE, symbolising the long-standing civilisational ties between Oman and Japan.
