The National Museum organises a lecture on Exhibition Development: A Case Study of Money as Material Culture: Acquisitions and Organization at the American Money Museum in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution
The National Museum, represented by the Learning Centre and in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution in the United States of America and the US embassy in the Sultanate, held the fourth lecture in the series of lectures on museum management in the twenty-first century for Omani specialists and students within the field of museums. The lecture titled “Exhibition Development: A Study” A Case on Money as Material Culture: Holdings and Organization in the Museum of American Money” and presented by Douglas Mudd, Curator/Director of the American Numismatic Association’s Edward C. Rochette Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday 13 October 2021 through the Zoom platform.
The lecture targeted employees from several institutions including; the National Museum, public and private museums, the National Records and Archives Authority, the Central Bank of Oman, Oman Across Ages Museum, the Scientific Research Council, the Sultan`s Armed Forces Museum. In addition to students in the Department of Archeology and History at Sultan Qaboos University, students in the College of Fine Arts at the Scientific College of Design, and students of the College of Banking and Financial Studies.
The lecture included several topics, the most prominent of which was an introduction on the origin of currency, as well as the collection management through dealing with various currencies in the stages of storage, restoration and preservation, furthermore the methods of displaying, installation and interpretation development were discussed.
