The National Museum Participates in the Second Edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The National Museum is participating with a selection of collections in the “Al-Madar” exhibition at the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, "AND ALL THAT IS IN BETWEEN". The exhibition is being held at the Western Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, running from 25th January to 25th May 2025.
The National Museum’s section highlights significant achievements of Omani sailors, such as Ibn Majid who authored several poetic works with instructions on sailing, including how to use the kamal, a navigational tool for measuring stars` altitude."
"The Museum`s corner features scientific manuscripts about navigation and its instruments, including Nabhat al-Ghafil fi Ma`arifat Hisbat al-Manazil (A Reminder to the Heedless on Calculating the Celestial Stations) authored by Sa`id al-Jama`i, and Ma`dan al-Asrar fi `Ilm al-Bihar (A Treasury of Secrets on Ocean Navigation) authored by Nasser al-Khaduri.
The collection additionally highlights Oman`s connections of navigation and trade across the Indian Ocean, and the Sinaw hoard that comprises nearly one thousand Sasanian and Abbasid silver coins, as well as a necklace with coins bearing the name of the Empress, the ruler of Austria in 18th century CE."
